A woman carrying two knives has died after being shot by police during a stabbing spree near Times Square that left one person dead and another critically injured, according to officials and local media.

The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. Monday near West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue in Times Square, according to the NYPD. The woman, who was carrying two knives, stabbed a female victim and a male victim before police shot her.

The female victim died, while the male victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition, NBC New York reported, citing law enforcement sources. The suspect was also taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.

Witness footage showed several officers confronting the woman as she appeared to hold two knives. The officers used stun guns, but she appeared unaffected and continued moving toward them with the knives in hand.

Several gunshots could then be heard in the footage. Police said responding officers fired at the woman and struck her.

The NYPD said it is investigating a police-involved shooting and that there are no outstanding perpetrators. Sources told NBC New York that the incident does not appear to have been a terrorist act at this early stage of the investigation.
