Turkish passenger plane evacuated after note claims explosives aboard
A passenger plane in Turkey was evacuated after a note claimed explosives were on board, according to local officials. Everyone was safely evacuated, and a search found nothing suspicious.
AJet flight 4180 landed at Şanlıurfa GAP Airport in southeastern Turkey at 8:05 p.m. local time Monday after departing Ankara, the country’s capital, at 7 p.m., according to Governor Hasan Şıldak. Flight tracking service AirNav Radar identified the aircraft as a Boeing 737.
The plane was carrying 136 passengers and seven crew members. Şıldak said precautions were taken to evacuate everyone safely before security teams began searching the aircraft for explosives.
The governor said the search was completed without any findings. The airport, which had been closed to air traffic, has reopened following an assessment by authorities.
Şıldak did not disclose the note’s exact wording or where it was found aboard the plane. It was not immediately clear if anyone was arrested.
