Nigerian military plane crashes, killing all 32 aboard
A Nigerian Air Force plane crashed in southwestern Nigeria, killing all 32 people on board, according to officials.
The aircraft went down Monday morning near a naval base in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State. It was carrying 25 passengers and seven crew members. There were no survivors.
The Air Force confirmed that the ATR-42 belonged to the service and was on a routine mission from Benin City, in Edo State, to Lagos.
“This is a painful moment for our Armed Forces and for the entire nation,” President Tinubu said in a statement. “Our Air Force personnel put their lives on the line every day to secure Nigeria. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
“I have directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent future occurrences,” Tinubu added.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
