Man fires at woman in Orlando courthouse parking garage
A man opened fire on a woman inside a courthouse parking garage in Orlando, Florida, halting court operations for several hours, according to officials. The woman escaped and the suspect was later captured.
Deputies responded just before 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday to the parking garage at the Orange County Courthouse, according to WESH 2. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said deputies spent the afternoon searching for a suspect known to the woman before taking him into custody.
The woman told investigators she had entered the driver’s seat of her vehicle on the garage’s fourth floor when she noticed the seat had been moved and something was in the back seat, according to an arrest warrant affidavit cited by WESH 2.
She ran out of the vehicle and saw the suspect emerge. The suspect had broken into the vehicle and hidden in the back seat.
The suspect pointed a handgun at her and fired, repeatedly asking, “Why are you doing this to me?” He then fired a second shot and chased her, according to the affidavit.
After the woman dropped her cellphone, the suspect picked it up, caught up with her and struck her in the back of the head with the gun. He then got on top of her, held her down and tried to reload the weapon.
The woman managed to escape and ran toward an elevator. She told deputies the suspect returned to the vehicle, threw something inside and fled.
The sheriff’s office identified the suspect as Kenneth Jerome Logan Jr., 26. He was arrested on charges including attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm involving domestic violence, armed burglary of a vehicle and burglary of a vehicle with assault or battery.
He also faces charges of robbery with a firearm, aggravated stalking involving domestic violence, false imprisonment with a weapon and domestic battery.
The sheriff’s office said the shooting interrupted court operations for several hours while deputies investigated. Officials said the woman was not injured by the gunfire.
