Former Marine pleads guilty to supporting extremist group tied to L.A. bomb plot
A former Louisiana police officer and U.S. Marine has pleaded guilty to conspiring to provide material support to terrorists after federal prosecutors said he joined an extremist faction that discussed bombing a logistics facility in California.
Micah James Legnon, 29, of New Iberia, Louisiana, entered the plea Monday in federal court to conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana. His plea agreement is set to be formally accepted and he is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 11.
Prosecutors said Legnon joined the “Order of the Black Lotus,” a faction of the Turtle Island Liberation Front, in early 2025. The group used encrypted messaging to discuss building improvised explosive devices and carrying out a planned attack on a logistics facility in California, according to court records.
Legnon allegedly agreed to use his military experience to advance the attack. Prosecutors said he discussed making explosives, saved a photograph of an explosive device and instructions on his phone, and offered to train other members in urban tactics, target accuracy and combat shooting.
Agents found assault rifles, SWAT and sniper training manuals, and other combat-related materials at his home. He had also downloaded guides on close-range combat, patrolling, ambush tactics, land navigation and demolition.
The Order of the Black Lotus was linked to an alleged plot to carry out bombings in the Los Angeles area on New Year’s Eve 2025. Four people were arrested in the Mojave Desert after authorities said the group obtained bomb-making materials and traveled there to test explosives.
At the time, federal officials said Legnon was not part of the California bombing plan but was believed to be planning a separate attack in New Orleans. He was detained while traveling east on U.S. Highway 90 with an assault rifle, pistol, body armor and a gas canister in his vehicle, according to court records.
