An evacuation zone has been lifted after a Norfolk Southern train derailed following a collision with a vehicle in Springville, Alabama, according to local officials. At least 34 train cars were involved, but no injuries were reported.

The collision was reported to the St. Clair County 911 center at about 2:16 p.m. Thursday in the area of Industrial Drive near Walker Drive, according to Springville Fire Chief Richard Harvey. The train was traveling northbound when it struck the vehicle.

The driver was evaluated but did not need to be taken to a hospital. Harvey said there were no injuries or deaths in the incident.

Officials initially established an evacuation zone extending a half-mile from the scene while responders worked to confirm the train’s cargo. That evacuation zone has since been canceled.

Harvey said none of the train cars involved contained hazardous materials. “There is no danger or threat to the public,” he said.

Industrial Drive remains closed between Walker Drive and Marietta Road. Mountain View Road is also closed at the railroad crossing.
