FBI releases recovered doorbell images of suspect in Nancy Guthrie case
The FBI has released newly recovered images and video showing an armed individual at the front door of Nancy Guthrie’s home near Tucson, Arizona, on the morning she disappeared. The footage shows a masked suspect tampering with a doorbell camera shortly before it went offline.
FBI Director Kash Patel said Tuesday that investigators recovered the material from residual backend data after working for more than a week to retrieve video that had been deleted, corrupted, or made inaccessible.
The material, taken from a Nest doorbell camera, includes six screenshots and three video clips showing a single individual wearing a ski mask, gloves, and a backpack, with a handgun holstered at the waist.
Additional recovered footage, from the same camera – at the same timeline the morning of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. This footage is just before the original video shared, with the individual approaching Nancy Guthrie’s front door.

The sole suspect appears to hold a flashlight in their mouth while approaching the front door and is seen attempting to disable the camera, first by covering it with their hands and then using nearby plants.
Savannah Guthrie, the NBC “Today” co-host and Nancy Guthrie’s daughter, posted after the FBI released the images. “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home,” she wrote. In a later post, she added: “Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home.”
NBC News reported the family was notified about the recovered images before they were posted publicly, but neither the family nor law enforcement recognized the person shown. The outlet said the FBI decided to release the images and videos to the public because investigators hope someone will identify the suspect.
Investigators have conducted door-to-door inquiries near the home of Guthrie’s daughter Annie after the footage was released, though officials have not said whether the activity is connected to the newly released images.
Authorities have previously released a timeline saying Nancy Guthrie returned to her home late Jan. 31 after a family dinner, before the doorbell camera disconnected in the early hours the next day.
NBC News reported that a deadline referenced in an alleged ransom demand sent to news outlets last week has passed. Law enforcement has not verified the authenticity of the message, which sought $6 million in bitcoin.
The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery and the arrest and conviction of anyone involved. Patel called on anyone who recognizes the person in the footage to call 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips through the FBI’s tip website.
