3 killed, 4 injured in shooting at suspected after-hours strip club in Detroit
Three men were killed and four other people were injured in a shooting at a suspected after-hours strip club in Detroit, Michigan, according to police. Authorities believe an altercation led to the gunfire.
A gunshot detection system alerted police at about 7:21 a.m. on Sunday, followed by a 911 call a minute later, Detroit Police Chief Todd A. Bettison said at a briefing. Officers arrived within four minutes and found three men with fatal gunshot wounds as people at the scene tried to help them.
The men have not yet been identified. Bettison said all three appeared to be approximately 30 or older.
Four other victims, two men and two women, were taken to a hospital in private vehicles with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. One man and one woman are in their 20s, while the other two are in their 30s.
Bettison said preliminary information indicates that an altercation broke out before the gunfire. Authorities have leads and are receiving tips, but no arrests have been reported.
Police have received seven calls for service at the address since the beginning of the year. Bettison said the location had also been the subject of an investigation, but he did not disclose its nature.
The chief described the property as an alleged after-hours spot where dancing similar to that at a strip club was taking place.
“Regardless of what was occurring in this particular location, no one deserves to have their life ended or be wounded by gun violence,” Bettison said.
Some victims may be related, though investigators have not confirmed those relationships. Bettison said he does not believe the shooting poses an ongoing danger to the public.
Michigan State Police also responded to the scene.
