2 dead, 8 injured in shooting at block party in Trenton, New Jersey

Two people were killed and eight others were wounded when multiple gunmen opened fire on a crowd at a block party in Trenton, New Jersey, according to authorities.

The shooting happened at about 12:23 a.m. in the 100 block of Locust Street, in the city’s Wilbur section of East Trenton.

A large, unauthorized gathering was underway on the residential street when several suspects approached and began firing into the crowd, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Responding officers found multiple victims with gunshot wounds. A 33-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man were pronounced dead after being taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center.

The eight surviving victims, who range in age from 23 to 43, were treated and stabilized. Police initially said 11 people had been shot, but authorities later revised the number to 10.

Investigators recovered more than 50 spent shell casings from the street, which was closed across the entire block. Multiple vehicles were also hit by gunfire.

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton Police Department are investigating. Detectives are reviewing surveillance video and asking witnesses to come forward. No arrests have been announced.
