Woman stabbed with sword in the Florida Keys; 4 arrested
A woman was stabbed with a sword and robbed at a camper in the Florida Keys, and four people have been arrested, according to officials. The victim suffered a punctured lung, but the injury did not appear to be life-threatening.
Deputies were called at about 3:45 p.m. on Sunday to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island, just east of Key West, after an adult woman arrived with a stab wound after being attacked with a sword. Investigators said the attack happened earlier in the day at a camper or trailer on 10th Avenue.
The victim told investigators she was robbed of a laptop computer and Diazepam medication during the same incident, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said 20-year-old Marlon Albero Bernal Cabrera stabbed the woman during an altercation. Other suspects took part by holding her down, hitting her or otherwise preventing her from leaving.
The suspects eventually allowed the victim to change out of bloody clothes and go to the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
Bernal Cabrera, of Stock Island, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping or false imprisonment.
Three others, all from Stock Island, were also arrested. Jasmine Elizabeth Jones, 29, and Zjiavon Deaute Green, 31, were charged with kidnapping or false imprisonment, while 39-year-old Arlem Cristina Silva Cruz was charged with kidnapping or false imprisonment, possession of methamphetamine, possession of prescription pills without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The sheriff’s office said Silva Cruz had a Diazepam pill, methamphetamine and a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue when she was arrested.
Investigators found the sword used in the attack and the victim’s bloody clothes at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
The investigation is ongoing.
