President Trump said the United States will decertify Canadian-made aircraft and may impose tariffs after accusing Canada of illegally blocking the certification of several Gulfstream business jets.

“Based on the fact that Canada has wrongfully, illegally, and steadfastly refused to certify the Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 Jets,” Trump said in a social media post on Thursday, “we are hereby decertifying their Bombardier Global Expresses, and all Aircraft made in Canada.”

Trump added the decertification would remain in effect until Gulfstream is fully certified in Canada.

“If, for any reason, this situation is not immediately corrected, I am going to charge Canada a 50% Tariff on any and all Aircraft sold into the United States of America,” Trump wrote.

Gulfstream Aerospace, the U.S.-based manufacturer of the business jets cited by Trump, has longstanding ties to U.S. defense and government aviation programs and is a major supplier of aircraft to the federal government.
