Trump signature on Epstein check disputed in latest document dump

Newly released Jeffrey Epstein documents have raised questions about the authenticity of signatures by President Donald Trump. The documents, released by House Oversight Democrats, include a photo showing Epstein with a check, which Democrats said involves a joke about selling a woman to Trump for $22,500.
The New York Times reported that the check’s signature “appears to have been doctored with a seemingly phony Trump signature,” calling it a “phony Trump check.” According to the Times, the signature was more easily debunked on the check than other elements of the documents.
Birthday letter still under scrutiny
Alongside the check, House Democrats also released a birthday letter allegedly written to Epstein by Trump around 2003 as part of a 238-page birthday book turned over by Epstein’s estate after a subpoena. Trump has denied any connection to the letter and sued The Wall Street Journal for reporting on it.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated Tuesday that the president did not write the letter or sign the documents.
“The president did not write that letter,” Leavitt said during Tuesday’s press briefing. “He did not sign those documents. He maintains that position, and that position will be argued in court by his lawyers. The president is very confident he is going to win this case.”
She said the White House would welcome professional handwriting experts to review the letter and compare it to Trump’s real signature.
President Trump, in a phone call with NBC News, called the matter a “dead issue” and said he would not comment further.
Partisan responses highlight division
House Democrats defended the letter, with Rep. Dave Min, D-Calif., saying it “looks real to me” and suggesting the release of the documents exposes a cover-up “going all the way to the top.”
Meanwhile, the House Oversight Committee announced that it is four signatures short of having enough support to request all Justice Department investigative files related to Epstein’s case. All House Democrats have signed on, with four Republicans joining.
