Telegram disappears from Apple App Store for unknown reason
UPDATE: Telegram said that its messaging app had been restored to Apple’s App Store and should soon be available again to all users, according to Reuters. The company did not provide further details.
Telegram has disappeared from Apple’s App Store for an unknown reason, preventing new users from downloading the messaging app on iPhones and iPads. People who already have it installed said it continues to work normally.
The app was no longer listed on the App Store on Monday, and attempts to access its listing were unsuccessful. It was not immediately clear when it was removed but appeared to affect users worldwide.
Neither Telegram nor Apple has commented on the disappearance or indicated whether it was an intentional removal or a temporary technical issue.
Telegram, which has more than 1 billion monthly active users, is one of the world’s largest messaging platforms. The service allows users to exchange messages, make calls and join groups or channels that can reach large audiences.
Apple previously removed Telegram and Telegram X from the App Store in 2018 after what Telegram founder Pavel Durov described as inappropriate content being made available to users. Both apps returned to the store after Telegram implemented additional protections.
