South Carolina man charged with threatening to kill President Trump

A South Carolina man has been indicted on federal charges after allegedly threatening to kill President Trump in a post on X, according to federal prosecutors.

The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in Columbia, South Carolina, charging 32-year-old John Alexander Bellue of Rock Hill with threatening the president and interstate communication of a threat to injure.

Federal prosecutors said the alleged threat was posted on September 7, 2025, on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“@realDonaldTrump you have the right to remain silent, I’m gonna kill you in the most brutal way possible,” Bellue allegedly wrote, according to the indictment.

Bellue faces up to five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 if convicted, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina. An arraignment date has not yet been scheduled.

The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting the president and investigating threats against current and former presidents.
