Shelter-in-place order issued in Salem, New Hampshire, due to armed fugitive
Police have told residents in part of Salem, New Hampshire, to shelter in place as officers search for a fugitive who should be considered armed and dangerous. He is wanted on a prison escape warrant and in connection with multiple felonies.
The warning was issued Tuesday for the Church Avenue, Route 28 and Granite Avenue area, according to the Salem Police Department. Authorities later expanded the instructions to anyone within a one-mile radius of Millville Street and Taylor Street, where the man was last seen.
Police identified the fugitive as Daquhan Cromer and said he is wanted for fugitive from justice, on an escape warrant from New Hampshire State Prison and in connection with multiple felonies in Salem.
The suspect is described as a Black man, 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing about 215 pounds, with a heavy build, short dreadlocks and a short dark beard. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and dark pants.
WMUR reported, citing Salem police, that the suspect also has a warrant in Massachusetts for aggravated assault on a child.
The station reported that he was arrested in 2019 after leading police through Salem in a vehicle stolen from Massachusetts. He struck multiple police cruisers during that chase.
Residents in the affected area are being told to remain inside. Police are asking anyone who sees the suspect or notices suspicious activity to contact the Salem Police Department immediately.
