An overnight shooting near the White House led Secret Service officers to search for a possible vehicle and a person of interest, according to officials. No injuries were reported.

The incident happened shortly after midnight in the area of Lafayette Park, the park just north of the White House, the U.S. Secret Service said in a statement. Officers searched the park and the surrounding area but did not find a suspect.

“Secret Service Police, in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Park Police, are actively seeking a possible vehicle and a person of interest,” the statement added. “Our investigation is active.”

White House operations remained normal, but the Secret Service said a heightened security posture was put in place and road closures remained in effect in the area.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting, or whether the gunfire had any connection to the White House.
