Perez Hilton to undergo surgery after “significant” blood loss
Perez Hilton remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition after suffering significant blood loss and other injuries that will require surgery, according to a new statement by his family.
Hilton is hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act, a law that allows people to be involuntarily detained for a mental health examination if they are believed to pose a danger to themselves or others.
His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family members, medical providers and others directly involved in his care, his family said in a new statement on Saturday.
“Perez’s condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days,” the statement said. “His treatment and recovery will be a long process.”
The 48-year-old blogger was hospitalized Tuesday after livestreaming himself cutting his face and body and repeatedly saying he wanted to die at his Miami-area home.
The livestream showed Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., covered in blood with dozens of apparent cuts. He also threatened to provoke a fatal confrontation with police.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls about the livestream and found Hilton alone inside the home. He was eventually taken from the residence and transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a hospital.
His family previously said his three children, niece and sister were inside the home shortly before the livestream but fled when it became clear that Hilton was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself.
Hilton was able to spend time with his mother and sister on Friday. His children are being cared for by immediate family, according to the latest statement.
