Ohio officer seriously injured in stabbing; suspect arrested after manhunt
A police officer was seriously injured after being stabbed by a trespassing suspect in Gibsonburg, Ohio, who fled into nearby woods but was arrested hours later, according to officials. The officer was hospitalized and is now in stable condition.
The stabbing happened at about 8:59 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of West Madison Street in Gibsonburg, according to the Gibsonburg Police Department. Officers responded to an officer-down call and found the wounded officer with serious injuries.
Police said the officer had been responding to a trespassing call at a private business and encountered Scott Dodd, 25, of Gibsonburg, according to police. The suspect was trespassing on the property.
While the officer was relocating Dodd, he suddenly began stabbing the officer. The officer fired their service weapon at the suspect before he fled into nearby woods.
Nearby schools were placed on lockdown as officers from multiple agencies set up a perimeter and searched for the suspect, who was considered armed and dangerous. He was located and taken into custody at about 3:03 p.m.
No information was released about whether he was struck by the officer’s gunfire.
The Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the stabbing, while the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been asked to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
