Ohio man charged over threats against Florida Rep. Randy Fine
An Ohio man has been arrested on a federal charge after he allegedly sent an email threatening to murder Florida Congressman Randy Fine and his family, along with a threat against President Trump, according to prosecutors.
Alex Justin Miller, 26, of Columbus, was arrested and charged with interstate transmission of a threat to injure, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of California announced, without naming the congressman. The charge stems from an email sent to Fine on Aug. 18.
The email was sent at 9:02 a.m. to Randy Fine’s personal email address while the congressman was attending a meeting in Flagler County, Florida. Fine’s family was at their home in Brevard County at the time, the affidavit said.
The suspect allegedly threatened to murder Fine and his family and wrote, “DEATH TO [Fine] AND DEATH TO DONALD TRUMP,” according to the complaint.
The congressman identified himself as the recipient of the threats in a social media post on Tuesday, saying the message was received on election day in Florida’s primary elections. Fine said federal and local authorities tracked down and arrested the alleged sender within 36 hours.
The FBI and Brevard County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case with assistance from U.S. Capitol Police and the U.S. Secret Service. If convicted, the suspect faces up to five years in federal prison.
