Multiple victims have been reported following a shooting at a school in Tumbler Ridge, a small community in British Columbia, Canada, according to officials. A suspect has been located deceased.
Canada’s national police force, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), said Tuesday that officers were on scene at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School after what it described as a confirmed active shooter incident.
“As of 1:20 p.m. the Tumbler Ridge RCMP are currently on scene of a confirmed active shooter incident at the Tumber Ridge Secondary School,” the RCMP said in a statement. “Those in the Tumbler Ridge area are asked to stay inside (shelter in place), lock your doors and refrain from leaving your home or business at this time.”
“The original suspect is believed to have been located deceased,” the RCMP said, adding that officers were still working “to determine whether a second suspect was involved.” The initial phone alert described the suspect as a female in a dress with brown hair.
A police spokesperson told The Globe and Mail that there were multiple victims in the shooting. The spokesperson did not provide a number.
The RCMP said additional police resources were being deployed from neighboring detachments, along with the North District Emergency Response Team.
