Massachusetts woman sought in police officer husband’s killing found dead
Police in Worcester, Massachusetts, have found the body of Karen Solomon, a woman wanted in the killing of her police officer husband. The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
At about 12:49 p.m. Monday, two people who work at Fairlawn Rehab found a body in the woods near 189 May Street. Police said the identity is preliminary and still must be confirmed by the medical examiner’s office, but they believe it is Karen Solomon.
Investigators also found a handgun near the body. Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier said Solomon appeared to have died from a gunshot wound. The weapon was not her husband’s service firearm, and detectives are working to determine who owned it.
Solomon had been the subject of an arrest warrant after her husband, Worcester police officer Kurt Solomon, was found dead at the couple’s home on Tuesday with injuries caused by a sharp object. Police had considered her armed and dangerous during the search.
The body was found about 0.6 miles from Coes Pond, where police had concentrated their search after releasing video that showed Solomon walking toward the water early Tuesday.
Saucier said the case had been classified as domestic because the victims were family members, as required under state law, but said there was no history of domestic abuse in the Solomon family.
Detectives believe the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide, though the investigation remains ongoing.
