Massachusetts teen accused of threatening to kill Trump and shoot up a school
A Massachusetts teenager has been charged with threatening to kill President Trump in an Instagram message that included a photo of a rifle, according to federal prosecutors. He also allegedly threatened to carry out a school shooting.
Trenton Touch, 18, of Tewksbury, north of Boston, was charged in a federal criminal complaint announced Thursday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts.
Authorities received information on September 10 about four Instagram accounts containing violent and threatening messages, according to the complaint. Prosecutors allege that the suspect used all four accounts to send messages threatening to kill others.
In one direct message on June 21, the suspect allegedly shared a photo of a rifle and wrote, “im gonna kill trump.” Other messages included threats to shoot up a school, prosecutors said.
Touch also allegedly referred to mass shooters who carried out racially motivated attacks as “heroes” and frequently mentioned the Christchurch shootings in New Zealand, which killed 51 people.
Authorities searching his home seized a revolver-style firearm, camouflage clothing, a ballistic helmet, military-style knives and a hatchet.
“Trenton Touch is an alleged white supremacist who now stands accused of threatening to kill the President,” said Ted E. Docks, the special agent in charge of the Boston division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Touch is in state custody and is scheduled to make his first appearance in federal court in Boston on Monday. The federal charge carries up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.
