Maryland’s Myles Rice takes ‘kick defense’ literally at game
College hoops are in full swing. While many basketball games were big blow outs, one Maryland Terrapin decided to get social media talking about his team in a very interesting way on Friday.
Myles Rice was determined to steal the ball from Georgetown’s Vince Iwuchukwu. However, he made the attempt with his shoe. In video footage, you can see Rice holding his shoe as Iwuchukwu makes his drive. Seconds later, he launches his loose footwear at the ball.
Not only did the Indiana transfer not succeed in his effort — referees didn’t blow the whistle. USA Today reports throwing a shoe is technically not in the rules. However, it does fall under unsportsmanlike conduct. In other words, Rice should have received a technical foul.
Maryland ended up losing to the Hoyas 70-60. Rice had 19 points and seven rebounds. He faces his former team in January. No word on what tricks he may have up his sleeve for that game.
