Two police officers have been shot while responding to a domestic disturbance in central Indiana, and the suspect remains at large, according to officials. A manhunt is underway after police identified the suspect.

The shooting occurred Monday just before 6 p.m. in the 100 block of Diplomat Court in Beech Grove, a city just southeast of Indianapolis.

Indiana State Police spokesperson Sgt. John Perrine said Beech Grove Police Department officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance inside an apartment when they were shot upon arrival.

Perrine said the officers were taken to Eskenazi Hospital and that their conditions would be released by the hospital. He said he would not comment on their conditions.

The suspect is Kenneth Terrell Johnson, born in 1978. He is described as a Black male with a slender build, about 6 feet tall and weighing 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a royal blue hoodie, possibly with the hood up or another head covering, and his hair tied up.

Police activity in the Beech Grove area is tied to the search of the suspect, with officers focusing on the area around Beech Grove High School.

“We are allocating all available resources in the search for this suspect,” Perrine said. “We are not going to stop until we find them.”

Perrine asked residents to stay alert and report suspicious activity, including anything unusual around their property, and to contact 911, the Indiana State Police post, or Crime Stoppers with information about Johnson’s whereabouts.
