Louisiana man arrested after volatile materials found during FBI search at home
A Louisiana man has been arrested on a bomb manufacturing and possession charge after volatile materials were discovered during an FBI search of a duplex near an elementary school, according to officials and local media.
The search began at around 6 a.m. Wednesday in the 3100 block of City Drive in Slidell, about 30 miles northeast of New Orleans. FBI agents and St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s deputies were executing a federal search warrant when they found the materials inside the building.
The duplex was evacuated and bomb technicians from both agencies were called to render the scene safe. The residence is near Abney Elementary School.
Patrick Kittel, 38, who lived at the duplex, was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on a charge of manufacturing and possessing a bomb, according to WWL-TV. Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
The FBI said the investigation began with information provided by the St. Tammany Parish Narcotics Unit. Kittel is cooperating with authorities, according to the agency.
Officials asked residents to avoid the area while the operation was underway but said there was no danger to the public. Slidell police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel also responded to the scene.
