Heavily armed man arrested in Albuquerque, New Mexico
A heavily armed man who walked through an Albuquerque, New Mexico, neighborhood and allegedly attempted to tamper with residential security cameras has been arrested, according to officials.
The man was identified as Kenneth Bair, who is charged with harassment, aggravated stalking and aggravated assault.
Bair was arrested Tuesday night following an investigation into his reported actions a day earlier in the Ventana Ranch area of northwest Albuquerque, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. Details about his arrest were not released.
The search began Monday after residents reported seeing a man walking through the neighborhood while wearing a ballistic vest and carrying a rifle across his body, a handgun on his hip and a large knife. He was initially described as wearing all-black clothing.
Residents also reported that Bair attempted to change or manipulate multiple home security cameras. One of the photos released during the search showed him standing in front of a camera while appearing to take pictures or video.
A second photo released Tuesday showed Bair wearing glasses, a light-colored shirt and black shorts, with a rifle hanging from a sling across his body.
Officials said that the investigation was not based solely on Bair openly carrying firearms, which is lawful in New Mexico.
“BCSO recognizes and respects lawful firearm ownership and the right to lawfully open carry in New Mexico,” the agency said. “Investigators considered the totality of the reported conduct and circumstances that caused residents to fear for their safety.”
Investigators believe other people may have had encounters with Bair that have not been reported. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim, or who has information, photos or video, is asked to contact the sheriff’s office.
