Greene says feud with Trump stems from push to release Epstein files

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., on Sunday defended herself amid a public spat with President Donald Trump. She said their disagreement stems from her push to force the release of files related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation — not political ambitions Trump claimed she harbored.

Greene, appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, said she remains focused on reducing political infighting.

“I have something in my heart that I think is incredibly important for our country, and that is to end the toxic fighting in politics,” she said.

The Georgia Republican’s comments followed a series of posts from Trump on Truth Social over the weekend. The president said the dispute began when he sent Greene a poll indicating she should not run for Senate or governor.

“She was at 12% and didn’t have a chance (unless, of course, she had my Endorsement — which she wasn’t about to get!),” Trump wrote.

Greene rejected Trump’s characterization.

“I never had a conversation at all with the president about running for Senate or running for Georgia [governor],” she said. “Those were decisions I came to on my own. I don’t want to have anything to do with the Senate.”

Greene said the true source of the tension is her push to make public the long-sealed Epstein files.

“I believe the country deserves transparency in these files,” she said. “I don’t believe rich, powerful people should be protected if they have done anything wrong. I’m standing with the women, and I will continue to do my small part to get the files released.”

Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said Sunday that he believes Trump “has nothing to hide” as lawmakers prepare to vote on legislation that would force the Justice Department to release files and communications connected to the federal sex-trafficking investigation into Epstein.

Speaking on Fox News, Johnson said, “We’ll just get this done and move it on.”

If the legislation is successful, it would require the release of all Epstein-related records, with redactions only for information involving victims or ongoing investigations.

Trump has not been accused of wrongdoing, and the inclusion of any name in investigation files does not imply misconduct.

Greene added that the country could “get back on track” if the MAGA movement focused more on domestic concerns.

“I think President Trump can do that if he refocuses his effort,” Greene said. “Even if he’s attacking me, I do want him to be successful for the American people.”
