The firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan will be livestreamed, the Pentagon said after Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said it would be “public.”

Hasan’s execution is scheduled for December 3. It will take place at Fort Hood in Texas at 1 p.m. on a Thursday, with soldiers using rifles to carry out the execution.

“We’ll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public, because people need to understand that there are serious consequences for these types of things,” Secretary of War Pete Hegseth told Real America’s Voice aboard the USS Lincoln.

Pentagon officials later clarified that the execution would be livestreamed and said further details would follow, according to the Associated Press.

Hegseth described the decision to use a firing squad as a “no-brainer” and said the location and timing were intended to match where and when Hasan carried out the attack.

“Army major, betrays his country, radical Islamist, kills a bunch of Americans at Fort Hood,” Hegseth said. “Of course we are going to do it at Fort Hood.”

“We’ll make sure that people are able to watch it,” Hegseth added. “People need to understand that there are serious consequences for these types of things.”

Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, opened fire at Fort Hood’s Soldier Readiness Processing Center on November 5, 2009, killing 13 people and wounding more than 30 others. Soldiers were preparing for deployments at the facility.

He was convicted of premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder at a military trial in 2013 and sentenced to death.
