Emergency slide accidentally deployed on Air Force One, delaying Trump’s flight
A military aide accidentally deployed an inflatable emergency slide on the new Air Force One, delaying President Trump as he prepared to depart for Dallas, according to The New York Times.
The incident happened Wednesday as Trump prepared to leave Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. The White House press pool reported that an inflatable emergency slide had been deployed from a front door on the aircraft’s right side.
Speaking to reporters on the tarmac, Trump said: “They’re checking the slide over here, and I think it’s going to take 15 minutes.” Asked whether he was confident the plane was safe to fly, Trump replied: “Yeah, I am, or I wouldn’t be on it.”
The New York Times, citing a person familiar with the episode, reported that the slide had been deployed accidentally by a military aide.
The plane later departed for Dallas, where Trump is attending the Republican midterm convention.
