California police officer, felony suspect shot during struggle in holding cell

A police officer and a felony suspect were shot during a struggle inside a police holding cell at the Pittsburg Police Department in California, according to local media. Both are expected to survive.

The shooting happened Thursday afternoon at the police department, in the East Bay community of Pittsburg, California. Sources told the East Bay Times that the suspect was able to bring a gun into a holding cell after his arrest.

The suspect allegedly fired the weapon when an officer entered the cell to transport him to county jail. A struggle followed, leaving the officer with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and the suspect with a gunshot wound to the ankle.

A third person was reportedly injured during a scuffle in the holding cell after the shooting. The identities of the officer and suspect were not released.
