At least 5 dead, a dozen injured in Jerusalem bus stop shooting

A gunman opened fire at a crowded bus stop in Jerusalem on Monday, killing at least five people and injuring at least a dozen. Of those injured, NBC News reported seven remain in critical condition.

Israeli police said two attackers fired bullets into a crowd just after morning rush hour at one of the city’s busiest intersections. Some Israeli media reported that they also boarded a crowded bus and opened fire inside.

A security officer and a civilian in the area returned fire, killing both attackers on the scene.

The aftermath

According to a spokesperson for Israel’s emergency service, the gunman killed four men and one woman.

Paramedics on site described the scene of the attack, saying there was “extensive destruction, broken glass on the ground and a chaotic scene.”

Some victims suffered minor injuries from the glass, while others were found unconscious and lying on the side of the road and near the bus stop, a paramedic told NBC News.

Hamas hails the attack

No group has claimed responsibility, but Hamas issued a statement calling the shooting a “natural response” to Israeli actions. It called the attack “heroic.”

The attack comes as the war in Gaza has sparked a surge in violence across Israel and the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived on the scene two hours after the shooting and warned that Israel is “fighting a war on multiple fronts.”

Trump’s comments

This incident specifically occurred just hours after Trump posted on Truth Social, warning Hamas to accept his peace deal terms.

He posted, “Everyone wants the Hostages HOME. Everyone wants this War to end! The Israelis have accepted my Terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning, there will not be another one!”
