Alcaraz defeats Sinner to win second Grand Slam title of 2025

Carlos Alcaraz added another major title to his growing resume Sunday, defeating Jannik Sinner in four sets to win the men’s singles final at the U.S. Open.
The 22-year-old Spaniard prevailed 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in a hard-fought match at Arthur Ashe Stadium, capturing his second Grand Slam title of the year. With the victory, Alcaraz takes home a $5 million purse and reclaims the No. 1 world ranking.
The win also marked his second U.S. Open title and his fifth career Grand Slam final appearance. Alcaraz entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and was seeking revenge after losing to Sinner earlier this year at Wimbledon. The two have developed one of the sport’s most compelling rivalries, with Sunday’s final serving as the latest chapter.
Alcaraz had previously defeated Sinner at Roland Garros in June. Sunday’s victory now gives Alcaraz the edge in their 2025 head-to-head series.
The final drew a high-profile crowd, including President Donald Trump, who was seen waving to spectators from the Rolex Suite. His appearance prompted increased security around the stadium, delaying the match start time due to longer entry lines for fans.
Despite the delay, the match delivered on expectations. Alcaraz broke Sinner early in the opening set and maintained control throughout much of the match, withstanding a second-set surge from the Italian before regaining momentum in the third and fourth sets.
During the trophy ceremony Alcaraz addressed the rivalry.
“I’m seeing you more than my family,” he said to Sinner. “It’s great to share the court, share the locker rooms and to share everything with you.”
Sinner, 24, praised Alcaraz’s performance and vowed to return stronger.
“I know it’s a lot of hard work behind this performance today,” Sinner told Alcaraz. “You were better than me. Congrats. Enjoy it. It’s a great moment.”
On Saturday, defending women’s champion Aryna Sabalenka pulled off the repeat by defeating Amanda Anisimova, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
