Two retired San Francisco police officers, including a former deputy chief, and their 24-year-old daughter were found dead at a home in Marin County, California, according to authorities. Officials believe the deaths were a double murder-suicide.

Deputies responded at around 5:03 p.m. on Sunday after a 911 caller reported shots fired inside a residence on Strawberry Circle in an unincorporated part of the county, according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

Responding deputies contacted the caller, who safely exited the home, then secured a perimeter before going inside. They found three people dead and determined there was no ongoing threat.

The sheriff’s office identified them as Kevin M. Mannix, 68; Ann Elizabeth Corriea Mannix, 65; and Katherine Elizabeth Mannix, 24. All three lived in the unincorporated Mill Valley area.

The sheriff’s office said the suspected shooter was male but did not identify him by name in its release. Detectives and coroner’s investigators have finished processing the scene, and autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.

Kevin and Ann Mannix were retired San Francisco police officers, and Katherine was their daughter, according to a statement from San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew.

“My heart goes out to all their family members, friends and colleagues at the SFPD as we all work to process this tragedy,” Lew said.

Ann Mannix served with the department for more than 30 years and rose to the rank of deputy chief. She was the first woman to lead its tactical unit.

Her career included assignments at the Taraval, Northern, Park and Southern stations, as well as the Special Operations Bureau and Field Operations Bureau. Lew said she served “with honor and distinction.”

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains in its early stages.
