Reports of shots fired at Miami International Airport; suspect detained
Authorities are responding to reports of shots fired at Miami International Airport in Florida and a person has been taken into custody, according to officials. No injuries have been reported.
Deputies responded to the airport at around 4:05 p.m. on Wednesday following reports of shots fired, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. Deputies took a subject into custody, but the agency did not provide details about the circumstances.
“There is no ongoing threat to the public at this time,” the sheriff’s office said.
Witnesses told local media that a shooting took place, though officials have not confirmed whether shots were actually fired.
Miami International Airport said the departures-level roadway and the terminal area between Doors 12 and 17 were temporarily closed because of law enforcement activity. All vehicle traffic is being diverted to the arrivals level.
“All passengers and airport employees are safe,” the airport said in an advisory.
