Teen arrested over school shooting threat in California’s Central Valley
A teenager has been arrested over a school shooting threat that forced a California Central Valley high school into lockdown, according to officials. Deputies also arrested a man after finding a firearm, ammunition and handgun magazines at a home searched during the investigation.
Officials at Le Grand High School learned of the threat on Wednesday after school hours, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office. Students were still on campus for after-school activities, and administrators placed the school on a precautionary lockdown while deputies responded.
The social media post referenced a group of students at the school and included the statement “it’s over for y’all,” accompanied by a video of someone holding a firearm with an extended magazine, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators identified a suspect and obtained a warrant to search the suspect’s home. During the search, they found an unregistered firearm, an extended handgun magazine, several other handgun magazines and a large amount of ammunition.
A 16-year-old was arrested at the residence for making terrorist threats. Deputies also arrested Albert Matson, 32, of Planada, on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The sheriff’s office did not identify the teenager or specify who was holding the firearm in the video. It also did not describe the relationship between the two people arrested.
