Colorado man charged with threatening to kill police, FBI agents and Muslims
A Colorado man has been charged with making online threats to kill law enforcement officers, FBI employees, Muslim Americans, judges and prosecutors, according to federal prosecutors.
Prosecutors announced Monday that Kevin Lee Tompkins, 40, of Thornton, was indicted on four counts of making interstate threats, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado. He was also charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition.
According to the indictment, Tompkins allegedly posted the threats on a major video-sharing website in June and July.
One alleged threat, posted June 27, targeted a New York state judge, while two others targeted the FBI, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and state and local police departments.
A fourth alleged threat, posted July 8, targeted Muslims, police officers, district attorneys, judges, politicians and federal agents, according to the indictment.
Authorities said boxes of ammunition and a book about making explosives were found at Tompkins’ home. Authorities also found that, despite being prohibited from possessing firearms, he had repeatedly visited websites where guns are privately bought and sold.
The FBI’s Denver field office is investigating the case.
