California man arrested after driving pickup with guillotine near U.S. Capitol

A California man was arrested after U.S. Capitol Police found and seized a guillotine from the bed of a pickup truck parked near the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., according to officials. Investigators are trying to determine why he drove to the nation’s capital.

Officers noticed the illegally parked pickup truck just after 3 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of East Capitol Street, according to U.S. Capitol Police (USCP).

The guillotine was standing in the bed of the truck when officers found it. Police seized the device and took the driver into custody.

The suspect was identified as Philan-Tam-Duy Le, 35, of Julian, California. He was arrested on a charge of carrying a dangerous weapon because he was in possession of the guillotine.

Capitol Police said Le had driven to Washington from California. Investigators are reviewing Le’s background to determine why he had driven to D.C. with the guillotine.
