800 evacuated after bomb threat at Georgia Power facility; no device found
About 800 people were evacuated from a Georgia Power facility after a bomb threat was found written on the wall of a portable toilet, according to officials. No explosive device was found after authorities searched the facility.
Emergency crews were called at 1:41 p.m. Monday to Plant Yates at 708 Dyer Road in Coweta County, Georgia, after Georgia Power’s security team reported the note, according to the Coweta County 911/Emergency Management Agency.
“We can confirm that we received reports of threatening language alleging an explosive device onsite posted inside a portable toilet at the Plant Yates construction site this afternoon,” Georgia Power said in a statement provided to WAGA. “We take this very seriously. Workers have evacuated the site and we are working with local authorities to sweep the site to ensure safety before work resumes.”
Workers and staff were immediately evacuated as local, state and federal authorities responded to investigate the threat. The response included the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office and its K-9 units, Coweta County Fire Rescue, and the county’s Emergency Management Agency.
No devices were found and authorities cleared the potential threat by 5 p.m. No arrests have been reported.
