Officer shot, suspect killed after pursuit ends at Sam’s Club near Fort Worth, Texas
A Texas police officer was shot in the leg and a suspect was killed after a pursuit ended at a Sam’s Club near Fort Worth, according to officials. The officer was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.
The incident began at about 6:50 p.m. Monday in Cleburne, a city about 30 miles south of Fort Worth, when officers responded to a report of a person brandishing a firearm. The person was in a vehicle, and a pursuit began after officers arrived.
The pursuit continued through Alvarado and north on Interstate 35 before ending near the Sam’s Club at 600 North Burleson Boulevard in Burleson, according to the Cleburne Police Department.
Shots were fired after the pursuit ended. The suspect was struck and pronounced dead at the scene, while one officer was hit in the leg by gunfire.
Witnesses told KDFW that they heard multiple shots fired from inside the Sam’s Club.
The Texas Rangers were notified and responded to the scene and will investigate the officer-involved shooting. The identity of the suspect was not released.
