D.C. bomb scare outside firehouse turns out to be adult sex toy
A device with exposed wires that was left outside a Washington, D.C., firehouse caused a bomb scare and shut down part of Wisconsin Avenue during Wednesday morning rush hour before it was determined to be an adult sex toy, according to local media.
The incident was reported shortly after 7 a.m. at D.C. Fire and EMS Engine 20 in the 4300 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW, according to WUSA9 and WTTG.
A person approached a firehouse employee outside the rear of the building and left behind a blue-and-black electronic device with exposed wires, according to a Metropolitan Police Department incident report obtained by WTTG.
Police officers assisted Fire and EMS at the scene, while the department’s bomb squad and K-9 unit responded to examine the device. It was cleared at the scene and deemed non-hazardous.
The police report identified the recovered item as an “electronic sex portable pump device.”
Wisconsin Avenue NW was closed between 40th Street and Warren Street for nearly two hours while the device was investigated. The scene has since been cleared and the road has reopened.
