Hunter Biden says Joe Biden’s cancer has spread further, is ‘very painful’
Former President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread into his bones and “further,” leaving him in severe pain and debilitated in several respects, according to his son Hunter Biden.
Hunter discussed his father’s condition during an interview broadcast Friday on BBC Newsnight, saying he wished the former president would complain more openly about what he is experiencing.
“The cancer has spread. It has metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter said. “It’s very painful, and it’s very debilitating in many respects, but he’s still out there.”
“My dad is, and to this day remains, the center of our family, not because of who he is, but completely because of who he is to each one of us,” Hunter said. “He is our rock, so it’s really hard and it’s really sad to watch.”
Biden, 83, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in May 2025 after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. Doctors found a prostate nodule and determined that the cancer had already spread to his bones.
His office said the cancer had a Gleason score of 9, placing it in Grade Group 5, but added that it appeared to be hormone-sensitive, allowing for effective management.
Former first lady Jill Biden also spoke about the severity of the diagnosis during an interview with NBC News in June.
“I think if he had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, that’s one thing because that can be cured, but the fact that it metastasized to his bones, that makes it a whole different story,” she said. “And so I think Joe will live with cancer till the rest of his life.”
