A Mexican social media influencer was shot and killed outside a fast-food restaurant in the western state of Sinaloa, according to local media. The attack happened while he was livestreaming.

The shooting happened at around 8 p.m. local time on Tuesday while Mexican influencer Cesar Gastelum and three other people were recording content outside a KFC restaurant in Culiacan, Sinaloa.

Footage from the livestream showed two people on a motorcycle pulling up next to the group before the driver drew a handgun and fired once at Gastelum, striking him in the head. The attackers then fled.

Gastelum died at the scene, according to local media. His body was left near the exit of the restaurant’s drive-thru as police and military personnel secured the area.

Gastelum had nearly 600,000 followers on TikTok. His content included comedy sketches, recurring characters, music covers, videos about his daily life and livestreams.

The attack recalled the killing of 23-year-old beauty influencer Valeria Marquez, who was shot multiple times during a TikTok livestream at her salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, in May 2025.

Culiacan has been the epicenter of a violent internal conflict within the Sinaloa Cartel between factions aligned with the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman and longtime cartel leader Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.
