Trump says he’ll accept whatever report shows on Iran school strike
President Trump said he is willing to accept whatever the report concludes about the strike on a girls’ school in southern Iran during the opening stage of the U.S.-Israel military operation.
Speaking at the White House on Monday, Trump made the comment after being pressed on his earlier suggestion that a Tomahawk missile seen in footage from the strike could have been used by another country.
“The Tomahawk, which is one of the most powerful weapons around, is sold and used by other countries,” Trump said. “Whether it is Iran, who also has some Tomahawks, the fact is that the Tomahawk is very generic. It’s sold to other countries, but that is being investigated right now.”
When asked why he was the only person in his government publicly raising that possibility, Trump said he did not know enough about the case to say more.
“Numerous other nations have Tomahawks. They buy them from us,” Trump added. “But I will certainly, whatever the report shows, I’m willing to live with that report.”
Reuters reported on Thursday that U.S. military investigators believe it is likely U.S. forces were responsible for the apparent strike, citing two U.S. officials. The outlet said investigators had not yet reached a final conclusion or completed their work, and that officials had not ruled out the possibility that new evidence could point to another party.
The school in Minab was hit on Saturday during the first day of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran. Iran’s ambassador to the U.N. in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, said 150 students were killed, though Reuters said it could not independently confirm the death toll.
Reuters also reported that archived copies of the school’s official website showed it is next to a compound operated by the IRGC, Iran’s paramilitary force.
