NFL cornerback, Kris Boyd, suffers gunshot wound outside New York restaurant

Kris Boyd, a cornerback for the New York Jets, was shot outside a restaurant in New York City early Sunday morning. Boyd is currently in stable but critical condition at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.

The New York Post was the first to report that Boyd, 29, had been shot in the abdomen, following a confrontation outside Sei Less restaurant around 2 a.m. ET on Sunday. In a statement, the Jets said they were aware of the incident but declined to comment further.

No arrests have been made

The gunman, who has not been arrested, allegedly fired two shots, though it’s unclear if Boyd was the target of the shooting. Several vehicles, including one carrying the shooter, fled the scene.

“Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!! Lord please hold your healing hand over Kris and guide him back to health and safety,” Boyd’s teammate Jermaine Johnson posted to X. “Lord I ask that you please just get him through this safely. In your name, Amen.”

Boyd’s career

Boyd’s NFL career started in 2019 as a seventh-round pick with the Minnesota Vikings. He subsequently went on to play for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans, before joining the Jets on a one-year, $1.6 million contract. He has not yet played for the team due to a shoulder injury suffered during the preseason.

The New York Police Department has not provided any additional information. An investigation is ongoing.
