Man charged after rushing Ariana Grande at ‘Wicked: For Good’ premiere
An Australian man who broke through a crowd and rushed Ariana Grande during a premiere event in Singapore is now facing charges. The incident unfolded during the “Wicked: For Good” yellow carpet on Thursday.
Authorities say the disruption happened at Universal Studios Singapore. Grande was walking the carpet with her co-stars, including Cynthia Erivo, when 26-year-old Johnson Wen suddenly ran toward her.
Erivo stepped between Wen and Grande before security reached them. Officers then pulled Wen away while Erivo comforted Grande.
Who is the man that rushed Ariana Grande?
According to NBC News, Wen later posted the video on his own Instagram account. He wrote to Grande thanking her for “letting me jump on the yellow carpet with you.”
His account has more than 11,000 followers and shows videos of him rushing other celebrities at concerts and even at the 2023 FIFA World Cup final.
Additionally, Wen has a highlight on his page titled “Stage Invader.” Despite the negative comments on his posts, he continues documenting the stunts, and his Instagram bio reads “Troll Most Hated.”
In June, Billboard reported Wen was also arrested after a similar stunt with Katy Perry at her concert in Sydney.
Charge filed as case moves forward
CBS News reports that Wen is charged with being a public nuisance. He represented himself in court and pleaded guilty.
He is scheduled to appear in a Singaporean courtroom again on Monday.
