Three people were killed and another was injured in a shooting involving members of the same family in North Carolina, according to local officials. The suspected shooter is among the dead.

The shooting was reported just before 8 a.m. Wednesday at a property on Brooks Road in Prospect Hill, about 45 miles northwest of Raleigh. Deputies arriving at the scene found multiple people with gunshot wounds.

Caswell County Sheriff Tony Durden said all four people were adults and members of the same family. The three people who died were found outside the home.

The injured person, who was also at the scene, called authorities and was taken to Duke University Hospital. Their condition was not immediately known.

Durden confirmed that the suspected shooter was among those killed, but the circumstances of the person’s death remain unclear.

Authorities have not said whether the suspect’s fatal gunshot wound was self-inflicted or caused by someone else. Unconfirmed reports have suggested that the injured person who called 911 shot the suspect.

The victims have not been identified, and no motive has been disclosed.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) is assisting with evidence collection and interviews. Authorities said the incident was contained to the property and there is no threat to the public.
