3 killed, 15 shot in high school shooting in the Philippines
Three people were killed and 15 others were wounded by gunfire in a shooting at a high school in the central Philippines, officials said. Two suspects were taken into custody after the shooting.
The shooting happened at about 9 a.m. local time on Monday inside San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, according to regional police. Officials said two students opened fire on campus before responding officers secured the area and took them into custody.
Initial reports said three people were killed and five others were injured, but city officials later said the number of gunshot victims had risen to 15. Five more people were injured during the commotion that followed the shooting.
The fatalities include two females and one male, while the gunshot victims included six females and nine males.
Tacloban City Police said two suspects, identified only by the aliases “Rod” and “Nash,” are in custody and being handled under juvenile justice and child protection procedures.
Police said the shooting may have stemmed from a personal grudge allegedly rooted in school bullying, but no further details were released.
Officers recovered a .38-caliber revolver and a 9mm Glock pistol believed to have been used in the shooting.
The attack is among the deadliest reported on a Philippine campus in recent years, along with the 2022 Ateneo de Manila University shooting, which also killed three people.
