24 children taken to hospitals after separate Louisiana school bus crashes
At least 24 children were taken to hospitals after two separate school bus crashes in Louisiana, according to officials and local media. Fifteen students were transported after a crash in the New Orleans area, while nine children were taken to hospitals after a separate crash in Shreveport.
The first crash happened Tuesday morning near MacArthur Boulevard in Jefferson Parish, west of New Orleans. A bus carrying Young Audiences Charter School students to the YACS Gautier Campus was involved in the accident.
Louisiana State Police said there were 46 children on the bus. The school said 15 students were taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation as a precaution.
“No serious injuries were reported and all students are doing well,” the school said in a statement provided to WDSU. Administrators responded to the scene and notified parents and guardians.
The second crash happened on Interstate 49 in Shreveport, in northwestern Louisiana, north of Kings Highway near its intersection with Interstate 20.
A bus from Magnolia Charter School appeared to have hit a concrete guardrail after a tire blowout, authorities said, according to the Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate and KTBS.
Nine children and the school bus driver were taken to area hospitals. No serious injuries have been reported.
