2 students shot at high school parking lot in Norfolk, Virginia
Two high school students were shot on school property in Norfolk, Virginia, after a confrontation with other juveniles, according to local police. One of the students has life-threatening injuries.
The shooting happened at about 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday during dismissal in the parking lot of Norview High School, in the 6800 block of Sewells Point Road, according to Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot.
Two students were confronted by a group of juveniles and a dispute broke out between the groups. One member of the other group pulled out a firearm and fired approximately four to six shots.
Officers arrived and found two victims, one with a gunshot wound to the upper body and the other with a wound to the lower body. Both were taken to local hospitals.
Police identified both victims as 16-year-old males. Chief Talbot confirmed that both attend Norview High School and that the entire incident occurred on school property.
Officials have spoken with numerous people and obtained video of the incident, according to the chief. He said police had made substantial progress in identifying the juveniles involved.
“We believe we are clear on who we’re looking for, and we anticipate quickly getting in touch with those juveniles,” Talbot said.
