2 killed in hate crime shooting outside gay bar in Tucson, Arizona
Two men were killed in a shooting that Tucson police are investigating as a hate crime against the LGBTQ+ community, while the suspected gunman died after being taken to a hospital.
The shooting happened at about 12:30 a.m. Monday at Venture-N, a gay bar in the 1200 block of North Sixth Avenue in Tucson, Arizona, according to the Tucson Police Department and local media reports. Officers found three adult men with gunshot wounds.
Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as 42-year-old Vincent Anthony Siqueiros and 33-year-old Cameron Davis Capara.
Police identified the suspected shooter as 44-year-old Ousman Ceesay. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and died shortly after arriving. Police have not said whether he was shot by someone else or suffered a self-inflicted wound.
Initial evidence indicates that Ceesay confronted Siqueiros and Capara in the business’s parking lot before shooting them.
Mayor Regina Romero called the shooting a “direct and devastating attack on our LGBTQ+ community.” She said investigators found that Ceesay had addresses for multiple LGBTQ+-friendly venues and intended to cause more harm.
Police said there is no known active threat to the community.
